Message to the Regiment From The RSM

Fellow Members of the Regiment:

I am very pleased to be back in the saddle again as your RSM. The last two and a half years have certainly brought about significant changes in our Regiment and in the Army. When I departed in Oct 05 the Army was just starting its new task in the Kandahar area; to assist in this task requires a huge input of pers including members of the Permanent Reserve. As a Regiment we sent over a dozen soldiers in various positions to help make Task Force 1-06 successful. The impact that our soldiers had in theatre was tremendous. They did their job in extremely difficult circumstances, were always professional and won the respect of their peers and leaders. Jobs so well done that some were even recognized with awards and decorations. Well Done!

As I write this we have a second large deployment of Regimental pers leaving for Afghanistan. Our soldiers are all very well trained, I daresay even better than those of us that were on TF 1-06. The tasks and operations that await them in theatre are no less important or dangerous than 18 months ago. Despite that fact, all our deploying soldiers are keen and eager to get on with it. May our thoughts and prayers help ensure their safe return.

For those of us remaining behind, we too face challenges. We will continue to learn our new Recce skills, plus some extra armoured functions to assist the Regular Force. It is an exciting time. There is no finer time to be a soldier; I look forward to working and training with you in the Regiment again.

Semper Alacer,
RSM
